In our careers, we've worked as freelancers, entrepreneurs, and employees inside Fortune 500 companies like Shopify. We know a thing or two about project management and getting things done. One thing is clear to us: structured data leads to structured work. That's why we like spreadsheets.

Spreadsheets force you to plan ahead. Since you have to set up your columns beforehand, you have to make a decision about how to work as a team and then commit to it. This is different from docs and presentations that allow everyone to do whatever they want. That might be fun for each team member, but it's not actually helping the team get more done as a whole.
